< PreviousTRIBALNETONLINE.COMTRIBALNET50 | SPRING 2017Government & Membership Services Board1 Linda Arredondo, Citizen Potawatomi Nation, Director of ITIt is an invaluable experience for executives from tribal nations to come together and share success stories regarding their adoption of new technologies. TribalNet provides many unique collaborative learning opportunities that help build awareness, stability, and sustainability within tribal IT strategies.2 Terry Honeycutt, Pueblo of Isleta, MIS DirectorI have been attending TribalNet since inception and the original mission of “Tribes helping Tribes” has helped inspire my dedication to expanding TribalNet over the years. There was very little communication between tribal IT entities prior to TribalNet. Now with the training at the conference and the network of colleagues who you can meet, a Tribal IT employee can easily receive advice and assistance with best practice solutions from industry experts throughout the nation.3 Chris Luter, Forest County Potawatomi Community IT Department, CIOTribalNet offers me the opportunity to engage with peers who have a truly unique set of responsibilities as we serve tribes. The industry is challenging no matter what organization you work for, but with the complexity that comes with tribal government, healthcare and gaming I feel it is particularly important to have a resource like TribalNet to help navigate our efforts. Serving on the Board is a source of pride as well as a way I can give back to my fellow technology professionals.4 Jody Osbon, Pokagon Band of Potawatomi, Director of IT We are pleased to welcome Jody to the board this year and look forward to the impact she will be making through her participation!5 Toni Potts, Cherokee Nation Health Services, Director of Health ApplicationsTribalNet serves as a great collaborative platform, allowing tribes to share their technological experiences and learn from each other. As a board member and Health IT committee liaison, I see how TribalNet has provided a significant opportunity for tribes to engage with each other on important health IT topics. TribalNet allows us to meet collectively to share knowledge, discuss lessons learned and consider future technical solutions that will benefit Indian Country.6 Richard Rader, Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Indians, CTOBuilding the relationships with other tribes creates a knowledge share. This shared information is valuable to continue to improve my team and the tribe which we support. At TribalNet it is all about talking with other technology professionals on their successes and challenges. As a whole the community of TribalNet is all about working to build stronger tribes through cooperation and sharing.7 Charles Scharnagle, Mohegan Indians, CIOTribalNet allows us to meet, discuss and move forward theories, solutions, ideas, etc. that will benefit all who are involved in this truly unique vertical. TribalNet represents the tribes and their successes, challenges and direction. Because of this, it is a growing and thriving organization who is moving forward while increasing the knowledge of everyone within our community. 8 Dustin Stark, Choctaw Nation, Director of ITTribalNet is the only organization solely focused on helping tribes embrace technology and utilize it to better serve their tribal members/citizens, customers and employees. Tribes are unique in that they span many diverse commercial and human service verticals, have combinations of federal and commercial funding to address ever-growing citizen needs, and have a complex government feedback loop. This makes it critical for tribes to be able to quickly and effectively execute on vision with technology.14725836TRIBALNETONLINE.COMTRIBALNETSPRING 2017 | 51Health IT Committee1 Toni Potts, Cherokee Nation Health Services, TribalNet Advisory Board Liaison & Director of Health ApplicationsTribalNet serves as a great collaborative platform, allowing tribes to share their technological experiences and learn from each other. We make sure that the topics are relevant to what is going on nationally and locally in healthcare.3 Cindy Chancellor, Choctaw Nation Health Service Authority, E.H.R Nurse SpecialistI continue to serve as a Health IT committee member because TribalNet is making an impact in the native health IT arena by connecting cutting edge technology to tribal health IT departments, which helps us make a difference in the day to day activities that effect our patients and health care teams. TribalNet brings these two groups into the same room so real interaction and rapport can occur.4 Matt Clay, Pokegnek Bodewadmik Pokagon Band of Potawatomi, Director of Health ServicesI believe TribalNet can have a great impact on Native American communities, especially as we grow and increase our reach to more tribes. This allows us to communicate the unique services and methods we are using to effect great change for those we service and care for. TribalNet gives an avenue to get away from the silo mentality and foster collaboration. This is just the tip of the iceberg.5 Katie Johnson, Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board, E.H.R Integrated Care CoordinatorI believe TribalNet’s impact is their ability to work in Indian Country and listen to all the tribes and their unique experiences with health IT. TribalNet is able to address multiple perspectives working towards the same goal to utilize any health IT to the greatest advantage for the tribes.6 Michael Rogers, Pit River Health Service Inc., Health Information Manager, Clinical Application Coordinator, RPMS Site ManagerHelping and hearing how others have worked through hurdles in rural areas with networks, IT and EHR in the tribal health setting. I love to problem solve and being part of a team that is focused on making things better for our tribal organization.7 Amy Rubin, Capt, Oklahoma City Area IHS, U. S. Public Health Service and Area Clinical Informatics CoordinatorTribalNet is pleased to welcome Amy back for another year of service on our committee. Amy brings a vast amount of industry knowledge and experience, making her a valued and impactful participant! 8 Andrea Storm, Forest County Potawatomi Health & Wellness Center, Clinical Data AnalystWith a rapidly shifting landscape in the health IT industry, the ability to learn about new technology, discuss successes and challenges in the field, as well as connect with peers is invaluable. Working in a tribal setting presents a unique set of circumstances; the opportunity to network with others in similar situations is critical to our success as we work to use technology to enhance patient centered health care and quality culture across our tribal communities.9 Ashley Tuomi, American Indian Health & Family Services of SE Michigan, CEOTechnology has always been an interest of mine and I feel like it is important that our tribes and native communities are connected to the latest technology and remain competitive with other entities.143725869TRIBALNETONLINE.COMTRIBALNET52 | SPRING 2017““CONGRATULATIONS2016INDUSTRY AWARD WINNERSTribalNet first began recognizing IT teams working in tribal gaming/enterprise, government or health with the Industry Awards in 2008. Every year since then, our Advisory Boards review the nominations and cast the final vote for the winners. Nearly a decade later, we have heard countless stories that highlight the creative, innovative, and forward thinking work that so many IT departments across Indian country are doing. On behalf of the Soboba IT Team, thank you for selecting us as the recipients of the 2016 TribalNet Industry Award. Receiving this prestigious award is a great honor. The fact that a well-respected organization such as TribalNet saw it fit to recognize our team’s hard work and accomplishments under the superior daily direction of Cory Gruwell (Casino IT Operations Manager) and Robert Schreck (Tribe IT Manager) is truly gratifying. Receiving the TribalNet Industry Award is a great sign that our technology roadmap is on the right track. This award will serve as motivation to continue to strive for excellence as we are now turning our focus to a replacement casino property in 2018 while continuing to provide technology solutions which will push Soboba into the latest technology era.”- Steve Nino, IT DirectorIt is a tremendous honor for our IT organization to earn this industry award.
