Brent Nelson

Brent V. Nelson serves as the Chief Information Security Officer for the Navajo Nation Department of Information Technology (NNDIT), where he leads security strategy, governance, and risk management for the Nation's systems and data. He brings a career spanning networking, infrastructure, applications, and IT leadership, and currently leads the development of NNDIT's information security program.

His focus includes maturing enterprise security practices, developing policies and data governance, and evaluating emerging technology risks, including ensuring that new tools are adopted in ways that protect Navajo Nation information and preserve the Nation's authority over its data.

Brent also serves as a Commissioner on the Navajo Nation Telecommunications Regulatory Commission and the Arizona Department of Homeland Security Senior Advisory Committee, work that spans telecommunications policy and critical infrastructure, alongside his role at NNDIT.

At TribalNet 2026, he brings an operational tribal-government perspective to discussions on artificial intelligence, responsible technology adoption, and Indigenous data sovereignty.
